Foreign Trade and Customs

The global integration of commerce and trade has led to an increase in foreign trade legislation. Examples of the intricacies of this kind of law are questions of “dual use” as well as – most recently – the “Oil for Food” proceedings. Any business that exports goods has to be aware of the problems that fall within the scope of these trade laws. Due to Germany’s dependence on export, offenses against trade law are statistically a sizeable part of white collar crime.

The other side of offenses against foreign trade legislation are crimes against customs regulations. The power of customs agencies has expanded significantly and unnoticed by many, which means that in this area, too, comprehensive lawyering skills are the only safeguard against accusations of illegal import.
