Rainer Biesgen focuses on all aspects of criminal tax law and tax disputes since many years. As a result of his previous activities in the tax administration and as a public prosecutor, he is particularly familiar with their way of thinking and work procedures. Rainer Biesgen’s main practice areas include advising and defending clients in all relevant criminal tax proceedings in German and international cases, preparing and accompanying voluntary tax disclosures declarations, assisting with tax audits and representing clients in tax objection and litigation complaint proceedings before tax authorities and tax courts.
Rainer Biesgen is a lecturer at the Faculty of Law of the University of Düsseldorf, where he teaches, among other things, criminal tax law. He is also a member of the examination board for the tax advisor examination in Düsseldorf.
Rainer Biesgen joined Wessing & Partner in 2008 and became a partner in 2014. Prior to this, he worked in the field of tax and corporate law in a law firm in Bonn and as a lawyer within Wessing (now Taylor Wessing) in Düsseldorf. He was a judge and public prosecutor in the district of the Oldenburg Regional Court from 2002 to 2004. From 1988 to 1991 he worked in tax consultancy, from 1986 to 1988 he was financial inspector at the Essen-Nord tax office.
Rainer Biesgen studied tax law at the Fachhochschule für Finanzen in Nordkirchen and law in Cologne.
Handelsblatt Best Lawyers 2021 ranked Rainer Biesgen among the best lawyers in Germany in the field of criminal defense.
